the lake house

[don't worry.. no spoilers..]

it's gotten pretty bad reviews.. in all sorts of formats from printed to verbal..
but i liked it.

sure it was totally predictable (which clement so kindly allowed me to predict the end myself and not just tell it to me straight.. so tt i'd be annoyed at myself and not him, for knowing the ending beforehand.. he's pure evil..) and far-fetched and cliche and it had those annoying/frustrating bits of stupidity..

but it's a romantic love story/movie.. of course it'll have all those "crappy" stuff.. and at the risk of sounding naive - just put away that usual dominant realist/pracitcal self of yours and allow yourself to get lost in the movie and enjoy it for what it is.. just let your imagination toy with the "happily ever after" idea of fairy tales.. and to quote from someone - "what's wrong with fairy tales? everyone ends up happy" (more or less diving into the pit of niavety.. i know i know..) it's a romantic love story/movie.. to a ceratain extent (at this point i can almost see every humanities teacher cringing at such a phrase) it is meant to be a form of escapism.. so screw the unbelievable quality of it..
oh bahs.

having said that.. i think i particularly like it mainly because it's personal to me.. it sorta applies to something..

and if you do watch it.. and think it's crap.. at least enjoy the cinematography of it..
i think the director is brillant.. the angles and colours captured on film are really beautiful.. i really liked the symmetry of the scenes where keanu reeves and sandra bullock are seemingly talking to one another across time (you'll understand this better if you watch it)..
but then again clement says i'm the only one who notices and appreciates such stuff.. TRY! it's really beautiful..
[and if anyone has the original jap version, which this one is a remake of.. please lend it to me.. i want to find out if the director is really as brillant as i think he is or if he just ripped it off the original -.- ]

and on that note.. he tends to notice the verbal nuances of movies, whilst i the visual aspect of it.. i like watching movies with him =) because of that and a ton of other reasons..

my main complaint is that i think the ending fell short.. especially after all that build up..

well anyway that's my two cent's worth on the movie
