confessions of a wannabe artist -
(in no particular order)in terms of school assignments, i tend to do the bulk of my research/prepartory work after i've completed the actual piece.
i have no patience to finish one art work before i move on to the next.
it just hit me a few weeks ago that i'm good at art, after i finished a painting (will post a photo of tt painting soon..).
i like knowing that im good at it, as frivolous as it may seem to some.
at the same time, i don't think it's thaaattt big a deal that i'm good at it as some people make it out to be.
i hate drawing human figures because i can't.
i'm too lazy to do something about that.
all my artwork is semi-autobiographical.
my painting speed gets even faster when i'm listening to techno.
i have quite a distinct style, or so im told.
i'm getting quite sick of my style, i want to develop(?) something new.
a lot of times people don't get some of my art pieces.
it doesn't really bother me that they don't (i'll elaborate more in another post).
my art has a point of view and i'm confident enough in it to state that.
my art is probably one of the most confident things i have about myself (i know how pathetic that sounds, oh shush).
i've only done and given paintings (two and counting) to one person in my life (the semi-obligatory ones i did upon my mother's request for the living room doesn't count).
i want to illustrate a children's book.
i'm going to paint my future kid's room =) (a castle themed thing for a boy and a fairy garden/forest thing for a girl)
i procrastinate a lot for art.
i have more ideas for art projects than i can will my lazy self to get round to doing.
halfway through big/major long-term projects, i will get extremely sick and tired of doing it.
i like just standing or sitting in front of that same big/major long-term project long after i've completed it and just taking it all in (not right after i've finished it.. right after i've finished it i feel more relieved than anything else.. the accomplished feeling doesn't quite hit me till a while later).
i quite dislike how at times i have to do (for art) what will get me the marks as opposed to what i want in school.
although conversely, i like how because of school i actually get quite a number of art projects completed.
i'm amused at how people generalise "artsy people" to be bad in academics.
i go against some "rules" for doing art (drawing/painting/etc, like how i sometimes mix paint on the canvas and not palette).
i continue doing it my way anyway despite semi-scoldings from teachers, and not because i want to be rebellious or different, but simply because it just works for me.
when i was in kindergarten, the teacher said i had to work on my colouring skills (i was more interested in toys.. i sometimes still am).
i regret not bothering to entre in to more art related competitions.
i wish singapore had better art schools.
i wish singapore's art industry was friendlier and more financially secure for one to work in.
i wish i knew which area of art it is that i want to specialise in and that i can decide on it based on interest and not practicality (and i am aware of the slight irony in that line, about how art as a career may not be all that practical).
and last but certainly not least (because all this was in no particular order),
clement is amazing for my art. he really is.
(i'll explain more in another post)
