musicals musicals musicals!

(don't worry.. this isn't becoming an art blog.. =>)

watched three musicals lasst week with my mom and sis - "the producers" on tuesday, "guys and dolls" on thursday and "footloose" on saturday =)

[forgot to take photos of the other two theatres -.-]

The Producers-
"the produers" was excellent! really hilarious and much much better than the film/movie, the one with uma thurman in it? i watched the movie version wtih dree back home in singapore (dree the musical version of it is so much better!!) i just find the theatre version of it so much more engaging and of course all the little nuances in the script pertaining to theatre itself.. there was one scene where "bloom" was standing away from "ula", and "ula" was like" why bloom stand so far down stage right?" =D or like one scene where "bialystock" made a little joke about the price of the ice-cream that was sold during intermission (they sell ice-cream during intermission!!) well you had to be there to really get it.. and all the little movements of slight changes in expressions that makes the show so damn good.. the guy who played "bloom", reece shearsmith, he was really really good! very well worth watching for a good laugh and a good time! (i know i sound like i'm advertising/promoting it.. but i just really liked it =D )

Guys and Dolls-
The first half was kinda slow moving i think.. second half was much better.. oh oh and patrick swayze was one of the main actors in it! patrick swayze!! (he's the guy who did the film dirty dancing?) was expecting more dancing from him in this musical but he hardly danced and when he did.. it wasn't thattt great.. think he's getting a bit old =x and i thought ewan mcgregor was going to be in it.. damn the stupid decieving internet.. =\ the best part of this musical i feel was the dancing.. in particular the guys' dancing.. hm for those who did dance with raj back in ac (or anywhere else).. you know he always tells the guys to dance like man and not neh neh boys or something? the dancing here would be exactly what raj meant by that statement.. really strong and precise moves and all in sync.. really really good dancing and choreography..

Footloose - The Musical -
this one is more of a "fun-musical".. light hearted and funny.. the kind where you can really tap your feet to the music.. the guy who plays "ran", can't remember his real name.. he can really dance.. his dancing is much better than his singing.. and when i say he can dance.. i don't mean like he's very good technically.. he's more of the kind of dancer who just knows how to flow and move very well to the music.. very.. erm.. fluid like?

oh and about the theartres.. they're all more or less located in this area called west end.. and each theatre just has one musical/play that lasts for months and even sometimes years.. and i love the interiors of the theatres.. they remind of the theatre that was in phantom of the opera? with all the ornate and beautifully gaudy golden relief.. the pillars.. thick red curtains.. mirrors along the walls.. exclusive box seats.. and ice-cream!! i mentioned ice-cream earlier right? they sell ice-cream during the intermission and you can eat and drink in the theatre itself.. yes they're ridiculously ex but it's ice-cream! oh but the annoying thing about these theartes is that the rows of seats are really close togther.. not a lot of leg room and whenever someone wants to walk past whilst you're seated.. you have no choice but to either squeeze your legs to one side or stand up and lean back a bit for them to pass.. oh and erm.. there are a lot of old people watching these musicals.. a lot.. =x

ah well.. i love the theatre =)
