fashion and textiles (day2)

this is day two of my second in 4 moreorless one-week projects.. that was quite a mouthful..

i'll explain what we did in the first half of the day at the last part of this post.. ah you'll understand why when you read it.. and if you're feeling lazy.. just look at the pictures and at least read that last part..

today's assignment is cheesily named "deconstructing the familiar".. "the familiar" being a plain white t-shirt (the one i got was from paul smith jeans! kinda reminded me of my father actually.. he wears paul smith shirts..).. so we had to cut it up into 6 odd shapes and do prints on 4 of them.. these are my prints :

and after that was done, we basically had something like an hour to sew/staple/pin/ usewhateveryoucanthinkofsinceyou'regettingprettydesperatefortime to connect the pieces back together to form some sort of "outfit".. this is mine:

er didn't quite turn out the way i wanted and i don't quite like it.. to me it just looks like i threw together a bunch of tattered cloth.. which is kinda what i did but it's not meant to look that way -.- but some people really liked what i did so heck..

[FIRST HALF OF THE DAY]

first half of the day, we basically just played around for half an hour with the plain white shirt we got.. twisting/pleating/pinning it onto our partner to form some sort of shape/outfit (on the first day, we used scrap pieces of cloth to tie our partners up.. yes very kinky.. *cough).. and this is what i did:

(i did this last one with just one pin =D)

now i shot these photos in shit lighting conditions and all.. with my sony cybershot and sadly not a very nice DSLR, or something along the lines of that.. crappy classroom wall as backdrop.. crappy overhead classroom lights for lighting.. and used iphoto (not photoshop, er mainly because i don't know how to) to do some editing.. and i have to say, at the end of it the photos came out pretty damn good.. they look more like fashion photography with proper lighting and all as opposed to being taken under the conditions as i mentioned earlier.. and i rarely say this but i'm quite proud of myself for how these photos turned out..

and here's the main bit of this post that i want to get across:
i'm beginning to really like photography.
(somewhat ironic yes, since this is project is in the area of fashion and textiles and the photography part of it is just meant to act as a documentation of our work)
i'm beginning to really like photography.
and it's beginning to scare me.. i'm actually considering the option of being a professional photographer (amongst a number of other art-related jobs).. never really considered it before.. and i doubt i'll really go into it full-time.. i like designing and all too much to just focus on photography alone.. but crap.. professional photographer? i mean you know people (especially in singapore) tend to avoid doing an art-related job because of financial reasons or stability etc? i was more or less planning to go into graphic design.. singapore has quite a good market for it (yes.. i do intend to live in singapore at the end of the day).. and "practicality" aside, i did a painting piece on it for o'lvls and quite liked it..
yea..
but i ike photography..
crap
=\
