insane project - "fashion 1"
yes i did say i wasn't going to blog any time soon.. ah but i couldn't resist not showing you guys this project that i've just completed (COMPLETED! *does a happy dance) --so after dabbling in two one day projects in the area of fashion ( i did fashion print and textiles).. you choose which area of fashion you wanted to go into for the two-day`ish project.. i chose fashion fashion.. and it's insane.
TOTAL TIME GIVEN: about 3 days -.-
tuesday - (4.30pm, end of school) we get the brief (assignment) for the project. basically we are to get (meaning buy ourselves.. garh) a tailored jacket, which is like the kind you wear to work, and deconstruct it into another form of garment.. and at the same time do research, sketches, illustrations, drawings etc.. so tuesday night work on the research and all..
wednesday - (no school) do the research, sketches, illustrations, drawings etc and get the tailored jacket. i found one at a charity shop for 5 pounds so it's not too bad
thursday - (10.30am to 4.30pm school) experiment with the jacket by tying it around your partner (a bit like what i did with the t-shirt in a previous project).. do sketces and drawings of it.. take photographs.. then start to CUT the jacket up and sew it or whatever you want to form your final garment.. and documenting the whole process through drawings and photographs
friday - (10.30am to 4.30pm school, submission of everything.. well you're suppose to finish it.. i mean not everyone finished everything but we're not getting assesed/graded till another day.. i finished more or less everything but i'm still going to continue adding drawings and all to it over the weekend) submit a completed garment, all your research, drawings, sketches, illustrations etc.. and either one A2 or two A3 size fashion illustration of your completed garment.

the tailored jacket before any alterations were made..

one of the "wrapping the jacket around my partner" thingies..
one of my tutors commented about how the shape and all is really intereting but at the same time it scares her a bit (the strait-jacket look).. mwahaha..

that's from my sketch book.. my research, drawings etc... for this project alone..
and my final garment! :

oh we could add other materials or things to our "jacket" if we wanted.. or use the t-shirt we worked on a few days ago.. i just added a blue scarf (2 pounds!) which is the puffy blue collar thing.. and a pin in the front..
(and yes i've gotten fatter.. oh shut up.. i swear it's the camera and the outfit that's making me fatter than my er.. current fatter state... and my time of the month aka binging fest just ended so yea.. shush.. my weight goes up and down 2-3 kg every month.. ah just shush!)
and i really love the way my garment turned out.. especially the back =D and yes it's extremely badly sewn but heck.. i did all the sewing and all in less than a day so it's all good =p

my two A3 size illustrations.. no where as stunningly beautiful as vick's and shar's work.. but er it's pretty damn good considering what i did in sec3! and they turned out pretty stylised so i'm quite happy with it.. ah i just love how i had them on hangers =)

my final presentation..
this was an extremely intense and insane project (which i did whilst i was sick and getting sicker =\ ).. it totally took me out of my comfort zone, having never made/sewed a garment before and having more or less steered clear of fashion after i did a sec3 piece on it.. was/am really bad at drawing human figures and that's pretty dam important in doing fashion illustration at O/A'level.. plus i didn't want to compete withi vick and shar who are amazing at it.. stuck to my strengths, which was/is painting..
but i really loved this project.. it was insanely intense.. and it just felt more like what "art school" should be, to me at least.. as opposed to doing "crappy stuff" like our earlier projects - 2min sketches, using scrap materials to build a city etc..
so there you have it =)
p.s.. if you hate/dislike it.. do tell me too! let me know what you guys think`
and i'll post pictures of other people's work once i've sorted through them
